$200 buys you 8 weeks of frizz-free hair. The right aftercare buys you 12. Here's the routine.
A Brazilian Blowout costs $200+ and lasts 8–12 weeks depending on aftercare. The difference between 8 and 12 weeks is entirely about the products and habits in the 72 hours after the appointment plus daily routine for the rest of the cycle.
The first 72 hours (most critical)
- No washing for at least 72 hours — the bond needs to set.
- No tight hair-ties or clips for 3 days — pressure marks become visible.
- No clipping, pinning, or pulling hair behind the ears.
- No heavy sweating, hot yoga, or sauna for 72 hours.
- No swimming in chlorine OR salt water for 72 hours.
Daily routine going forward
Shampoo
Use a sulfate-free, sodium-chloride-free shampoo. The label needs to say BOTH. Sodium chloride (regular salt) breaks the protein bond — most regular shampoos contain it as a thickener. Brands that work: Brazilian Blowout's own line, Olaplex No. 4, Pureology (most lines), Redken Color Extend Magnetics. Wash 2–3 times per week, not daily.
Conditioner
Same rule: sulfate-free, sodium-chloride-free. Apply mid-length to ends only, not at the scalp.
Pool / ocean / hot tub
Wet your hair with tap water and apply leave-in conditioner BEFORE getting in chlorinated or salt water. The fresh-water saturation prevents chemical absorption. Then rinse and condition immediately after.
Heat styling
You can heat-style normally — the treatment actually makes hair more heat-tolerant. Always use heat protectant; the seal is more durable but the hair underneath still needs protection.
Sleep
Silk or satin pillowcase. Cotton creates friction that breaks down the seal faster. This single habit can extend a Brazilian Blowout by 2–3 weeks.
Weekly bonus
Once a week, do a bond-repair mask. Olaplex No. 8, K18, or any salon-grade bond-builder mask. Five minutes in the shower, dramatic difference in longevity.

Will swimming in chlorine ruin my Brazilian Blowout?+
Frequent swimming will shorten it. Daily swimmers should plan for 6–8 weeks of smoothness instead of 12. Pre-saturating your hair with tap water + leave-in conditioner before each swim helps significantly.
How often should I get a Brazilian Blowout?+
Every 12 weeks is the sweet spot. Some clients stretch to 16 weeks with strong aftercare. Less than 12 weeks generally means too much processing on the same hair shaft.
Can I color my hair while it has a Brazilian Blowout?+
Yes. Color goes on top fine. In fact, the smoothing seal helps color hold longer. Sequence-wise, get the Brazilian Blowout AFTER a color appointment in the same day for best results.
